We’ll provide the drinks and snacks (but you’re welcome to bring your favorites too!) All ages welcome.
On Sunday, August 21, members and friends of St. John United Lutheran and Woodland Park Presbyterian are invited to meet again to hand-write notes on form letters encouraging recipients to vote. This is our second gathering to write letters; on July 17 we had a successful letter writing party and we’re looking forward to doing this again!
As a reminder, this is organized by a non-profit, Vote Forward (https://votefwd.org/) “dedicated to empowering grassroot volunteers, wherever they may be, to encourage fellow citizens to vote.” Their approach is to be very respectful, non-partisan and uses only publicly available information from voter rolls. They provide a letter template (which we’ll make copies of), names and addresses. At our party, each of us will add a short, personal handwritten note to the letter as well as address the envelope. Please think-up ahead of time what you would like to add as your personal note. In an effort to help with this, here are the 3 notes that we used in the 2020 election:
“I vote because it is the easiest way to make my voice heard in our sacred democracy.”
“ I believe voting is a sacred act. When I vote, I consider it a prayer. I am encouraged by the one who said ‘Every election is determined by the people who show up.’ In fact it is our duty to show up.”
“ I vote because the future of our children and grandchildren depends on it.”
We want to make this party fun and meaningful and we really hope that you can make it. For planning purposes, please let Dave Favour, seattlefavour@gmail.com, know if you can attend.
