“Short Stories by Jesus” SJU Book Group

The St. John United theme for fall and winter 2022-23 is Live to Tell the Story!

“On the one hand, it celebrates that we have survived and recognizes that this is no small feat,” says Pastor Anna.” We’ve made it this far by faith! It also points to a favorite hymn of mine, I Love to Tell the Story (ELW #6616) and a reminder that our lives serve as witness to God’s grace and mercy.”

In keeping with this theme, Pastor Anna is leading a lunchtime bible study series on The Short Stories of Jesus: The Enigmatic Parables of a Controversial Rabbi by Amy-Jill Levine, Vanderbilt emeritus professor of Jewish and New Testament Studies. Study will be in-person noon – 1 PM on first and third Fridays in the conference room starting Sept. 16. The full list of dates is: September 16, Oct 7 and 21, Nov 4 and 18, Dec 2 and 16, Jan 13 and 27, February 3 & 17, March 3 & 31

If you’d like to join via Zoom, or are interested and can’t make a noon meeting either in person or via Zoom, or need a book, contact Pastor Anna at pastor@stjohnunited.org.

Interviews by the Dr. Levine are available on YouTube and elsewhere, including a podcast by the Maxwell Institute.
