Church Building Closed Until Futher Notice

As a colleague recently said, these days “love looks like an empty building.” I write to you from this place we all know as being vibrant with activity. Today it is quiet. Your presence is deeply missed!  But, we trust that we are a community not just because of this building, but because of our care for each other and shared interest in the common good.

Effective immediately, the church building is closed to the public until further notice.  Gatherings of any size are prohibited on the premises, unless expressly permitted by the pastor or church council.

Most of our building users have already elected to suspend or alter gatherings.  We thank you for expressing care for the wider community in this way.

Accompanying those most in need is still a primary value of this community. Our nightly SHARE shelter is still running, and we are working to provide additional day respite.  The PNA Free Hot Meal Program will be offering to-go meals only on Tuesdays between 4-6pm and Wednesday between 11am – 1pm. Stay tuned for ways you can help keep these and other critical services functioning, as they are needed now more than ever.

In this time of increased isolation, you’re invited to join our Facebook Group – it’s for all friends of SJU – and to follow our Public Facebook Page. Share your pictures and words of joy and encouragement using  #SJUstaysconnected, #peopleofSJU and #SJUbythezoo.  Sunday worship videos will be posted weekly through our website.  Weekly conversation & prayer via Zoom (Join URL: https://zoom.us/j/461845707)  will continue on Wednesdays at 6pm. as long as we’re closed.

If you are a regular contributor, now is a great time to transition to online giving.  It’s easy to do through our Giving Page.  We will also still be receiving mail.

Office staff will be working primarily from home. For those who host regular meetings, you are encouraged to utilize conference call services like Zoom or Google Hangouts.

Thank you for your patience as we adapt to these circumstances and pivot to address the emerging needs of this community. We so value your partnership and welcome questions and feedback.
