Service to the wider community has always been at the core of our St. John United identity. Following the way of Jesus means acting for a more compassionate, just and peaceful world. We have hosted a twice-a-week hot meal program since 1981 and a nightly shelter for the homeless since 1991. In the past two decades, we have strengthened our advocacy efforts to change the public policies and practices that lead to homelessness and hunger. We also act to care for our Earth home, through tilling our organic community garden, greening our practices at home and at church, and advocating to reduce global warming. We collaborate with many other groups in these efforts.
